This article shows you how to automatically deploy a private GitHub repository to cPanel on every push to the master branch.

If you’re working on a project you intend to host from a private GitHub environment, you’ll probably be working with cPanel so your codes can go live on deployment.

The workflow to achieve this is as follows;

  1. Make some changes to the document on your local machine.
  2. Push the changes to a separate git branch.
  3. Once you are done with the testing and everything seems perfect, you would want to merge to a master or main branch (With the assumption that the master branch is your production branch, anything you push to the master branch is ready to go live).
  4. You push to the remote master branch and it automatically deploys to your cPanel (Live environment for your users to see).
  5. Repeat steps 1–4

To achieve this, you would need;

  1. An FTP/SFTP account created from your cPanel account.
  2. A project under Git version control and hosted on GitHub.
  3. A GitHub Action Workflow Configuration.

Let’s get started

There are many ways to deploy a private GitHub repo to cPanel, but this is an easy and popular way to do it.

THE STEPS

1. Log in to your cPanel account and create an FTP account

2. Keep your FTP account username and password as you will need them later.

3. Next you need to know your server IP address (or Hostname but the IP address works fine for me), You can reach out to your host service provider if you do not know your IP address.4. Go to your private repository on GitHub, click on SETTINGS, then click on SECRETS to add your FTP account username, password, and server IP

5. On the SECRETS tab, click the NEW REPOSITORY SECRET BUTTON on the right-hand side, to add a new secret.

Create new Github secret.

6. Add the details as follows (Using your own details)
The names should be FTP_SERVER, FTP_USERNAME, FTP_PASSWORD, and the values should be your own secret details respectively click the ADD SECRET BUTTON
Here is an example;

7. The next step is to create a GitHub action workflow; The GitHub actions take place on the GitHub server.

In your GitHub repo, click on ACTIONS

GitHub Actions

8. Click NEW WORKFLOW, You can choose a workflow template but for the sake of this tutorial, we will be creating our own workflow.

Click on any template (I selected the first template), then edit the configuration (“yaml” configuration file)

Choose a workflow action template

9. Change the file name to your own choice. (I changed mine to deployTocPanel.yml), make sure it has the .yml file extension

create a deployment file on GitHub

Place the below configuration code in the file

Make sure you change the branch where you want your codes to be deployed from, in my case I am deploying from master branch

10. Once you are done, click on START COMMIT button on the right hand side

Save GitHub Workflow

This will automatically create a /.github/workflows/directory and places the configuration file in it.

11. Anytime you push your codes to the master branch, it automatically deploys to cPanel via your FTP account.

12. Anytime you push to your master branch, you will see something similar to what’s below

GitHub action in progress

The Amber color means that deployment is in progress.

GitHub action in progress

Once the deployment is successful, the color changes to GREEN, This means your code has been deployed successfully to cPanel.

GitHub action successfully deployed

If it fails, it will change to RED.

GitHub action failed

I hope this article helps you to set up a continuous delivery for your project.

You can leave a comment below to let me know how helpful it is.

“If you think good design is expensive, you should look at the cost of bad design”- Dr.Rolf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover.

Definition of Terms:

Product means an object, a system, or a service made available for consumer use as per consumer demand.

Design on the other hand is said to be a plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or workings of something before it is made.

PRODUCT DESIGN DEFINED

Product Design can be said to be a broad coefficient and effective generation and development of ideas through a process that leads to new products. It could also be described as the process of imagining, creating, and iterating products that solve users’ problems or address specific needs in a given market. Product design plays an ongoing role in refining the customer experience and ensuring that supplemental functionality and capabilities get added in a seamless, discoverable, and non-disruptive manner. Product design can refer to any product—even digital, virtual products such as software apps.

PRODUCT DESIGN PROCESS

Product Design Process- PDP, is the set of strategic and tactical activities, from idea generation to commercialization, used to create a product’s design. In a systematic approach, product designers conceptualize and evaluate ideas, turning them into tangible inventions and products. Their role is to combine art, science, and technology to create new products that people can use.

There are various design processes and their processes often involve figuring out what is required, brainstorming ideas, creating mock prototypes, and then generating the products. The design thinking process involves several steps they including;

  • Empathize with people
  • Define the problem
  • Ideate a solution
  • Build a prototype
  • Test the solution

The product design process never truly stops, even once a product reaches maturity. That’s because technology and how users interact with it keep evolving. “The key to a successful product design is understanding the end-user customer i.e the person whom the product was created for”.

HOW PRODUCT DESIGN CAME TO BE

Product Design is an outgrowth of a similar discipline called “Industrial Design” which is the process of design applied to physical products that are manufactured by mass production. It can also be said to be the creative act of determining and defining a product’s form and features which takes place in advance of the manufacture or production of the product.

There are several roles under the name “Product Design” and they include:

UX Design

User experience commonly known as “UX Design” is a design process whose sole objective is to design a system that offers a great experience to its users. It is the process of defining the experience a user would go through when interacting with a digital product or website. UX design embraces the theories of several disciplines such as user interface design, usability, accessibility, information architecture, and human-computer interaction.

User-experience and interaction designers focus on refining a product based on how their research into user behaviour suggests people will get the most satisfaction from using the product. UX designers aim to increase users’ happiness.

Graphic Design

The most artistic job within product design is creating the graphics, icons, logos, and other visual elements of the product experience. Graphic design is the act of creating visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers.

Graphics designers develop the overall layout and production design for applications such as advertisements, brochures, magazines, and reports. Their purview is as broad as selecting a colour scheme to as narrow as tweaking individual pixels.

Motion/Animation Design

If the product experience involves elements “moving”—be it slick transitions or a user-controlled avatar—the motion/animation designers work on this extremely complicated part of the design. They don’t create the art, but they bring it to life.

User Research

In a large enough product design organization, User research solely focuses on understanding customers. Interviewing, running usability studies, presenting prototypes and mockups for feedback, and building out demographics and personas that fall under the design scope.

Data analysis

Data analysis focuses on user research and other data to identify ways to improve a product’s layout, feature set, and visual aesthetic. The primary role of data analysts is a scientific one, but they are also designers.

Prototyper

Prototypers are the product team members who bring the team’s ideas to a tangible state to help the company quickly validate with users the product’s features and other characteristics. In a company that makes physical products, prototypers will handcraft mockups. For digital companies, the prototyping team will develop wireframes or other virtual mockups.

Product design can be demanding and intricate work. It is a far broader, far more strategically central role than most people realize. More responsibilities and specialized experience mean higher pay. Product design is not simply the process of making a product look better, “product design is the whole process”. You evaluate problem validation, as well as crafting, designing, testing, and shipping the solution.

Product design may be your dream job if you:

  • Enjoy developing and integrating business goals into design and product decisions.
  • Love participating in the entire design process
  • Have deep knowledge in design and a solid understanding of business; and
  • Can analyze complex data to synthesize designs that satisfy business goals and user needs.

INTRODUCTION:

The last Community Connect  event which took place on the 9th of September 2022 began with TG asking the attendees that were present in the last community connect  (Part 1 – Entrepreneurship Master Class) what their take home from the last event was?. Some attendees gave their different  perspective on what they learnt while  some asked questions on some of the things that needed clarification.

One of the attendees, Marlene, reminded the house on the importance of documentation and separating personal account from business account as an entrepreneur as it helps discipline and proper documentation, it was after that, TG asked everyone who was in attendance to introduce themselves and what they do as tradition in Abia Tech Hub.

It was on this note that TG introduced the new series which includes:

Bootstrapping; Bootstrapping is the act of recycling what you have into something better. It’s also known as “Compound Interest”. The way you make money is through iteration. He also  went further to educate the attendees  on how to run a business, and the other steps to take.

Steps On How To Run a Business

  • Before you start a business ask yourself this; what problem am I solving? Because to make money, you’ve to be able to solve a problem.
  • Focus first on your one-on-one customer for the 1st three months. Most people jump into putting up their businesses online without first creating a rapport within their community/circle.
  • Register your business first before beginning the online work; this helps to secure your business in the long run.
  • Get a domain name.
  • Get a professional email address and phone number; this makes your business appear authentic to your clients.

Funding

A lot of people require funds/money to begin their business. While this is necessary, there are steps to getting funds to enable run your business properly, and they include;

  • Build a website first. Your site should contain readable information.
  • Come up with a good business proposal for both the bank or an investor, ensure your proposal contains your documentation and numbers.
  • Go to the bank for a loan. But before that try to build good connections and be sure to always pay back with interest. This helps build your credit and make you a trustworthy customer.
  • In place of getting a loan from the bank, you can look for investors.
  • Understand elevator pitch; this is a detailed summary of yourself and business which makes investors decide whether or not to invest in your business.

Marketing

  • When customers talk about price, shift their focus to value, when they understand it they’ll go an extra mile to get it.
  • Know when you’re talking to the wrong customer; don’t waste your time on them.
  • Always sign an agreement. Never do word of mouth.
  • Understand deflection; if you want to sell, you’ve to create demand and after that create supply.

Leverage ADs

  • As earlier said, focus more on your community, offer value to them, and then shift your focus global.
  • Leverage ads- begin with google ads.
  • Study your market and take feedback from your market, not from people.

Setting Up a Productivity Section in Your Company

  • Learn to document.
  • Track the task progress of your staff.
  • Make use of productivity tools such as; track attendance, productivity income, expenditure and information flow.
  • Adopt technology in productivity.
  • Make sure your tech team adopts dev-Ops, Agile and SCRUM.

Some Entrepreneurship take home nuggets;

  • Build into the level of network you have and think beyond just poverty and eating.
  • Try to attend events, meet people, learn new things and try to offer value.
  • If you’ve not built the mental and financial capacity (look at your circle of friends). Money shouldn’t be your problem to start a business.
  • Focus more on value.
  • Write; always write about your journey, about what you do.
  • Don’t see money as a big thing, see it like a game. See money as fuel. What matters most isn’t money but time. Find a way to save time with money, because the more time you have the more you can save money.
  • Be educated; education isn’t only about filling one’s mind with books but about inspiring the mind.
  • The advantage you’ve as a startup is speed.

IN CONCLUSION

TG ended by letting everyone know that we can all be great CEOs. He advised all to brainstorm about mind blowing ideas which can be actualized and grow into something big in the future. He also called forth interested young minds to join a created forum where business ideas can be shared.

With that, the event came to an end. We got lots of feedback from our attendees saying the event was as mind blowing as the last and they looked forward to the next. Whenever you find yourself around Umuahia, locate the hub and join this connection every second week of the Month on Fridays, you’ll go home changed.

Remember to follow us on all our social media handles to keep tabs on more information, also, community connect runs every two weeks. Be sure to keep a date with us.

Regularly, web designers around a small bunch of programming dialects. The dialects they use, notwithstanding, will rely upon the sort of web advancement work they do.

There are three significant sorts of web engineers:

  • Front-end
  • Back-end
  • Full-stack

Front-end designers code the real site utilizing CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and different dialects, as well as Happy Administration Frameworcentres like WordPress. Front-end improvement, otherwise called the client-side turn of events, generally includes coding and programming the visual components of a site that clients will see. In that capacity, there is a decent measure of cross-over and coordinated effort between front-end engineers and website specialists.

Back-End Web Engineers

Back-end engineers code the information base and server utilizing progressed programming dialects like PHP, C#, Java, Ruby, and SQL, as well as NodeJS and other server-side structures. Back-end improvement, otherwise called the server-side turn of events, fundamentally envelops the parts of the site happening ‘in the background, which guests don’t see from the front end.

Full-Stack Web Engineers

At last, full-stack engineers code both the front and back finish of a site. They have a strong comprehension of how these parts work and their capability together. As well as coding site pages utilizing CSS, HTML, and JavaScript, full-stack engineers likewise set up and arrange servers, code Application Programming Connection points (APIs), question data sets, and then some.

As we addressed above, web engineers require specific abilities to satisfy their jobs. At any rate, a web designer should learn the following:

  • Coding and programming dialects like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP
  • JavaScript systems like jQuery
  • Testing and troubleshooting
  • Back-finishes and data sets
  • Content Administration Frameworks (WordPress, and so on.)
  • Website streamlining (Search engine optimization)

Notwithstanding specialized abilities, there are likewise non-specialized ranges of abilities that prove to be useful as a web designer. This incorporates critical thinking and scientific reasoning, which can be valuable during the troubleshooting system. It’s additionally vital to have strong correspondence and cooperation abilities for working with clients and other key gatherings (like website specialists).

To play out their work, there are likewise a modest bunch of instruments and stages that web designers use. This incorporates Jira for issue following and GitHub for code forming:

The difference between a web developer and a web designer is bigger than you think.

A web designer brings a brand’s idea into an on-screen reality and knows exactly what the specific audience will enjoy.

A web developer builds the site’s core structure, using coding languages to construct logical, programmatic websites.

However, just like mustard and ketchup on a hot dog, sometimes you need both to get the best experience. When building a website from nothing, you need a web developer to build the foundation, and web designers to make it look and feel the way you and – more importantly – your users want.

Teamwork aids a website better!

INTRODUCTION:

The 10th edition of the community connect which was held on the 25th of August was the first community connect held since after the Techflock event and it was a very educating and eye-opening edition. The event had an influx of people in attendance and everyone who attended left with some words of wisdom. Abia Tech Hub sees this edition as a milestone and we are happy to have attained this feat of bringing like-minds together.

As a tradition, the event started with everybody introducing themselves at the event. After that, TG the CEO of Abia Tech Hub who moderated the hangout welcomed everybody to the event, and it was on that note that the event officially started.

TG first started by introducing the topic of discussion which was “ENTREPRENEURSHIP MASTERCLASS, BUILDING IN THE AGE OF CHAOS (BOOTSTRAPPING)”. After introducing the topic, he went ahead to give us a dictionary definition of who an Entrepreneur is and according to the dictionary definition, a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit.

He also further mentioned that as an entrepreneur himself there are two people who he looks up to as his role model in the business world and they are Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson. He mentioned one of Naval quotes that have always motivated him “stay at the bleeding edge of trends”. He stated also that out of 100 businesses about 90 plus fail which in turn means that not all businesses survive. He continued by taking us down memory lane of how and when he started his first business in Absu which later failed along the line and how subsequent businesses that followed suit failed as well till he got to where he is today.

Two ways to become a successful business person:  :

  1. You have a runway; that has to do with you getting funding to take off your business career.
  1. You bootstrap:

              Ways to Bootstrap

  • The first way to bootstrapping as an entrepreneur is to ask yourself the very important question “what problem am I going to solve with my business”?
  • You also need to have it at the back of your mind that as an entrepreneur you need to put in money to make money.
  • As an Entrepreneur, you also have to be big on publicity as regards your business, run adverts, be it offline or online always talk to people about your business and know your target audience.
  • Always ask for feedback from your customers and work on the negative feedback and sell your business with the positive feedback.
  • Try to position your business in a way where you do not necessarily have to meet your client in person before a transaction will take place.
  • Also, go with the trend as a business owner. He chipped in that if you are running a business with a business model of 5 years ago you have technically run out of business because the world is evolving and as a business owner you are supposed to always be at the bleeding age of trends like Naval said.
  • Always delegate duties to your teammates for effective productivity, that way you can have less to do and concentrate on the job you have to do for the business and also be able to hold people responsible for their tasks.
  • Understand the psychology and personality trait of the people that you are working with, and learn to use the mixture of positive reinforcement techniques to deal with your team for easier management.’

Some Entrepreneurship take home Nuggets from the event:

  • Learn to separate your personal finance from your business finance
  • Documentation and valuations are very important in business
  • Learn to always detach emotions, and don’t allow your self-esteem to be tied to your company or business.
  • In your team you do not need experts, you need the people who are willing to learn. You just need to be the lion herding the sheep and you can successfully convert the sheep to lions.
  • When hiring in startups, start by hiring generalists after a while you start hiring specialists and experts.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, he advised that everyone who intends to become an entrepreneur should apply these nuggets so nobody would have to move out of umuahia to start up a business.

One of the attendees asked TG about some of the challenges he faced in the early stage of entrepreneurship.

He stated that he:

Lost friendships and relationships,

Made lots of sacrifices and denied himself lots of frivolities,

Encountered Depression and heartbreaks.

  • He ended by saying “ when using the positive reinforcement technique, leverage on the strength of your teammates and work on their weaknesses.

It was on this note that we ended the event and we got lots of feedback afterward from our attendees that they were mind blown at the event and learned a lot.

INTRODUCTION

Design is a constantly evolving process for solving problems creatively. It aids to bring together solutions that are human-centered, viable and feasible. Design thinking enables this problem-solving in five phases, which are; Empathy, Define, Ideation, Prototyping, and Testing.

Prototyping is the fourth phase of design thinking.

What is Prototyping?

Dictionary Definition

A prototype is someone or something that serves as a model or inspiration for those that come later.

Design Definition

Prototyping is an experimental process where design teams implement ideas into tangible forms from paper to digital. Teams build prototypes of varying degrees of fidelity to capture design concepts and test on users. With prototypes, you can refine and validate your designs so your brand can release the right products.

Prototyping allows designers to test the practicability of the current design and potentially investigate how trial users think and feel about the product. A prototype is an early sample of a design that allows users to visualize or interact with it before a final product is developed.

Why Prototype?

Some of the benefits of prototyping but not limited to these include:

1) Exploring new ideas.

2) It aids to find solutions to problems already discussed by design teams during Conception and Ideation.

3) Evaluate Technical Feasibility.

4) Effectively Present Idea to Customers.

5) Iterate at Lower Costs.

6) Provide Focused Feedback.

Types of Prototyping

Some of the types of prototyping include:

Mockups: These are solutions built to showcase how the real products will look like.

Simulations: This is the presentation of ideas or solutions by creating models.

Story-boarding: This comes in 3 processes.

1. The process of brainstorming situations and problems for solution.

2. List characters and explain or describe their experience.

3. Draw down ideas and explain them to make it clearer.

Prototyping is considered as a vital process in design thinking.

Prototypes should highlight what works and what does not both from a design and user perspective, this enables a more robust design to be developed that addresses any issues without having to worry about affecting a live version.
